Ian,  The group sends Christmas Greetings to you.

Riem and Comrai.  Comrai is 20 months old and we are at the very beginning stages of adopting her as our daughter.  She is 20 months old and in a very Solomonesque decision her mother wanted her to have a better chance at life and is willing to give her up for us to raise.  Riem is 13 and will live with us while she attends the next 6 years of schooling.

The Pooh Bear is named Rok (Thai word for Love) and is a very special friend for Comrai.

Update on Riem and Comrai.  Comrai's parents proved their insincerity by requesting funds after coming here and taking her back.  We were shocked at the event and rather than put Comrai through multiple stages of confusion about where her home was decided she should stay with her parents and not be subject to the whims of money hungry parents every few months.  We sadly abandoned any relationship with her and her parents.

Riem finished a year of school while living with us and was summoned home by her mother because we did not give Riem enough spending money that she was able to stash away for when her mother visited.  Her mother proved to be interested in what money Riem could con us out of and not in her education at all.  So Riem has returned to her home, much used by her mother and us a lot wiser in the process.

Life's little twists as each day unfolds are what makes life here so very interesting.  On May 28, 2008, we got a call from one of Pha's younger sisters requesting that we come and get her.  It seems her husband got involved in Yaaba type drugs and was getting very aggressive and physically abusing her.  Of course we went at once to pick her up and bring her to our place.  She and her then 5 month old daughter were living with us and were accosted by her drug taking husband who had come to take the baby with him.  I intervened and physically forced him off our property, only to have him pull a huge knife from his jacket.  The knife was about 18 inches long and he came after me breaking down the gate in the process.  When Pha's sister saw the look in his eyes she gave him the baby and he departed with only the threat to do me in.  We of course reported the incident to the police at once but there was nothing that they were willing to deal with except to file a report.  About a week later the mother of the drug addict came to our house with the baby in tow asking if we would take the baby.  It seems that the baby had been crying for the entire time and they had tried to provide comfort at all of the relatives before finally admitting that they could not take care of her.

In the mean time, the mother had gone off to work at a toy factory because she was afraid of the husband coming after her again, so we ended up with the baby girl in our trust.  It would appear that she will be raised by us since the baby's father went off and got married again and the new wife is pregnant.  Baby's mother is still afraid to come home or to let her husband know where she is, so we will do the best we can to give the baby what it needs in life.

These are photos of Pha and baby Noon, and me and Noon when she was about 6 months old in July of 2008.

More Photos will be added as things happen.
